"Suddenly
our home was filled with sinking Titanics and I said to myself,
"Boy, I must be depressed." But I didn't feel depressed--partly
because I was discovering so much; it's almost impossible for
me to be depressed when I'm creating things. And then, sure enough,
I found as I went on painting that the ship was no longer sinking.
Soon there was not even the hint of an iceberg and then, before
I knew it, I'd done a painting of the ship in broad daylight,
with crowds of merry people waving on the quayside. I called
it 'Sailing Day,' and it turned out to be the last painting in
the series." |
